If you are here, chances are you like Game of Thrones.

So do I! I think the show is a masterpiece of production in television, and for the most part juggled political intrigue with action sequences very well.

However, when it ran out of books to adapt, I felt it went stale. Season 7 was awful compared to the standards it had set – I mean, we had two Stark kids outsmarting Littlefinger, Gendry becoming Usain Bolt and Tyrion coming up with laughable ideas for Daenerys. Season 8 was panned for its creative decisions as well – you probably know most of the criticisms and don’t need reminding.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, pardon my French, made shit up to make it to the endgame points George R.R. Martin told them. Since they did not turn out to be particularly great writers (or interested ones), we got “innovative ideas” like Ed Sheeran singing in solider’s clothing.

As a show and book lover it was disappointing because Martin does not look like he’s going to finish ASOIAF anytime soon, which means that the only closure available was through D&D, who ended up giving Game of Thrones a rushed, confused and unsatisfactory end. I am in love with this story, and I feel it deserves a better ending that gives justice to its characters, retains its political intrigue and subverts fantasy tropes like it was previously known for.

If not the books, I would like the show to have a better third act, which is why I wrote an alternate ending for Game of Thrones (not ASOIAF). It continues from S06E10 and has 18 episodes. If you want to forget Seasons 7 and 8 ever happened, you can try reading this story instead.

Season 7 Episode 1 is out – if you are new to the site, begin reading the story from here.

Happy reading!
