INTERVIEW: J Devika and Nishi Pulugurtha #10


This panel discussion was part of the Homemaker story project, initiated by Tell Me Your Story. I was Project Lead and moderator.

 

J Devika is a feminist researcher and teacher at Centre for Development Studies, Kerala, who has contributed to the understanding of the history of gender, development, politics, and culture of modern Kerala. Her work is interdisciplinary and she brings to bear her training as a historian on contemporary issues. She is interested in opening up the boundaries between academic and public and pedagogic discourses, the social sciences and humanities, and English and Malayalam.


Nishi Pulugurtha is an academic and creative writer based in Kolkata. Her work has been published in various journals and magazines. Her publications include a monograph on Derozio (2010), a collection of essays on travel, Out in the Open (2019), an edited volume of essays on travel, Across and Beyond (2020) and a volume of poems, The Real and the Unreal and Other Poems (2020). Her recent book is a collection of short stories, The Window Sill (2021) and a second volume of poems is forthcoming.
